Off and on, I get these bouts of insomnia and lay awake for hours. Sometimes I get up and read, watch tv, or get on facebook (not a lot going on at 3 am!). Sometimes I am just far too lazy (or too cold) to get out of bed and end up just laying there tossing and turning, mind going a mile a minute, rebelling against the Still, Small Voice speaking to me to pray. [Remember earlier posts, I am a worrier!]
Lately though, I've just been trying to heed that Still, Small Voice. There are so many things to bring before the Lord and though I would much rather be sleeping (I. Love. Sleep!) I am thankful for the sweet time of communion with Him. It is truly a blessing to be able to come before His throne of grace at any hour and bring the burdens & petitions to Him. It's a peaceful time ... "beneath the shelter of His wings, I'm at rest in perfect peace."
These two songs of God's peace have been floating around in my head and I thought I'd share, hoping that you find them as comforting as I do.
Perfect Peace
When life's burdens get so heavy and it seems I'm all alone,
I cast my care on Jesus and come boldly to His throne.
I find His grace sufficient when His promises I heed.
For His very life He sacrificed, and He lives to intercede.
He is the Lord of lords, and when He speaks, winds and waves obey.
When Jesus whispers, "Peace, be still," then darkness turns to day.
And as I'm trusting in my Savior's Word doubts and fears all cease.
And beneath the shelter of His wings I'm at rest in perfect peace.
I will seek for souls in darkness, Calv'rys love with them to share.
Empowered by His Spirit, I will follow anywhere.
For know whate'er befall m my Lord is in control.
And as my mind is stayed on Him perfect peace He gives my soul.
Peace in the Midst of My Storm
When my way seems so dim and unclear,
Jesus I'm glad I know you are near.
Weary and worn from this life I live.
I long for the peace that You give.
Peace in the midst of my storm.
Peace in the midst of my storm.
Draw me close to Thyself, O Lord,
And give me peace in the midst of my storm.
Jesus, through You, I've the power to stand.
You gave the promise that You'd hold my hand.
Trusting Your Word, to You I will cling.
Praise God for the peace that You bring.
Peace in the midst of my storm.
Peace in the midst of my storm.
Draw me close to Thyself, O Lord,
And give me peace in the midst of my storm.
